Naomi often describes herself as the epitome of eclectic; with her mixed Afro-Indo-Guyanese and Puerto Rican heritage serving as the influence for her many interests. As early as the age of 4, she began drawing the world around her Brooklyn neighborhood. She later discovered she did not have a single artistic passion but an affinity for countless means of artistic self expression. She has tried her hand at painting, graphic design, photography, illustration, silk screen, sculpture, mask making and many others. This artistic repertoire earned her the nickname "Mosaic."
Naomi studied illustration and graphic design at Pratt Institute. She later went on to attend Brooklyn College where she received her Master’s in Art Education. She is a licensed NYS art teacher, and has taught K-12th grades. From the time she was a child she knew she wanted to share an important message with the world. She sees art as more then self expression; it’s an entire dialogue between the artist and their life experiences. It allows one to synthesize emotion, reaction, cause and effect into a visual work.
Her latest artistic endeavor is a series of paintings done on wood. The project started out with small paintings on small 8x8 pieces of wood, and has evolved into her latest series done on 24x24 wood panels. All the work is organic in nature and many times the natural wood grain/defects in the wooden panels are used for inspiration or become part of the piece itself.
Naomi wants to share her passion for the arts with a new generation of artist.
